Having stayed in Chiangmai for a while and not following the usual “top 10 cafes to hang out” kind of posts. I tend not to go anywhere else unless my friend brings me along.
So in no particular order, here is MY list of places that I went to patronise :
Tengoku De Cuisine
There are 2 branches, 1 at Nimmanhaemin and the other in a street opposite Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi. I come here for the buffet which is 800thb per head. The foie gras sushi and garlic rice is good but not part of the buffet.
The actual quality of the buffet is not fantastic but for 800thb, its a pretty good deal when you see the list of items they have for selection.
The buffet list includes Sukiyaki, Sashimi, Sushi and other stuff.
The ambience of the place is not too bright, it can get noisy sometimes because of the amount of customers they receive daily. If you really want a seat, I recommend you do a reservation. Otherwise you can just gamble and see if there is any space for walk ins.

If you love beef, only beef, nothing but beef. Susuran is the place for you.
You have 3 or 4 buffet sets to choose, I normally choose the 400thb per head one, I think its the most expensive set available, I could be wrong. The 400thb set has the fatty beef and its only 400thb so why not???
Basically you just BBQ the beef and eat till you go into a food coma. There are other stuff like prawns and fries and soup but I go there only for the beef.
Closed on Tuesdays
Opening hours : 17:00 – 24:00
Located at Akyra Manor, a 5 star hotel along Nimmanhaemin. Don’t let the 5 stars scare you, ITALICS serves their food at a very reasonable price.
This is one of the places where you can get really good pizza. I wouldn’t recommend going there for the Thai food, stick to the Italian food, its really not bad. I also like the pesto that comes with the bread.
The most expensive pizza would set you back around 300thb. No complaints from me, its still cheaper than pizza hut.
And you know what else is good? There is a rooftop bar here and there is happy hour! 1 for 1 cocktails. The perfect place to chill during the cool season in Chiangmai.
Another affordable joint for western food in Chiangmai. I don’t have to say much, just look at this poster.
Just look at the food and the price. Wah piang.
There are 4 branches of Duke’s, the one I normally go to is located at Maya Shopping Center.

Finally a Thai food joint. This place is like a zhi char place, the whole place doesn’t look presentable but who cares when the food is good!
I can’t be having western or japanese food every day so sometimes I come here to grab some thai food instead. They are even available on food panda!
Bloody hell, just writing about this place is making me hungry!
This place doesn’t open for dinner, it is a daytime joint.
Its located along Nimmanhaemin Soi 13. It is just next to the car detailing shop.
This little gem is one of my favourites, hiding in a corner at Nimmanhaemin. I would say that this place has the most delicious pork katsu and gyu don RELATIVE to the price. I came here every other day until the owners knew my name and order.
The Gyu Don will set you back 135thb, how great is that?? I pay more and get lousier stuff even at Fuji restaurants. The portions are not small. Each time I walk out of the shop totally satisfied.

Woo Cafe-Art Gallery-Lifestyle Shop
Come to this cafe is green is your thing. The thing about this cafe is that it is a gallery first, then a cafe. Which explains the pricing of their food and drinks.
The coffee is NOT Starbucks price, I also found the spaghetti carbonara quite tasty. Some other stuff you have got to try are the desserts.
Climb to the second floor and explore the art gallery. What I love about this place is the wooden chandeliers carved to look like horns. Everything seems to be well thought out. Some desserts are housed in a glass cover sitting on the metal tin filled with ice.
The staff are also very friendly unlike other establishments. The only problem with this place is the parking. I think the space in front of the shop can only fit 5 or 6 cars.
This is my list for now, I need to remember the locations of the other food joints!
